I am trying to help an elderly woman on a fixed income who has been feeding a colony of feral cats in the trailer park where she lives. She can no longer afford to feed them, some of them are so starved they are trying to come in her house when she opens the door.. She has tried contacting rescue groups and animal control and no one will help her. I am going to be meeting someone in Easton to transport food donations for her, I am on Kent Island. If anyone would like to donate food to her, you can give it to me and I will be meeting a friend of hers in Easton who will be taking it to her. Ideally she would like someone to TNR trap/neuter/spay and release them as well as the food donations. If anyone can help these poor cats, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Pointer Mix Pup and Others For Adoption

This baby was born Nov 14th 2009. Her mom is a pointer mix that we pulled from a kill shelter days before giving birth. We are thinking the dad is boxer, no way or really knowing. This is just an educated guess judging the appearance of the babies. They should be medium size dogs 35-40 pounds. She is being raised in side the house with us. She has been socialized from birth. This little booger would make an awesome companion to anyone.

The adoption fee is $75 and the pup will go to it's new home current in VET documented vaccinations, deworming. She will also get wellness exam by my vet a before she goes home. We can deliver near your area Sunday Jan 9th or 10th for a delivery fee of $35.00. We are located about 6hrs south of the VA/MD line via 81.

maybe you should have been a vet instead of a teacher then.

how many lives do teachers physically save every year? i have nothing against teachers, i am majoring in english, but what would we do without vets? almost everyone who browses this section is a pet lover and almost every one of us who genuinely cares about their pets can say that vets have saved one of our animals over the years.

vets work in small practices. its not like there is a giant animal hospital and animal life insurance policies with lots of doctors and nurses on site. they open their businesses and have to pay bills like everyone else. the machines and tools are ridiculously expensive, but it would be pointless for a vet to have an office without them. of course they need to turn a profit but they spent a lot of time and money to go to medical school to become a doctor.

when you are in college you can change your mind a million times about what you want to do. everyone knows what professions pay the best. why complain about a fact of life? you have the freedom to choose your career path. if you go with what makes you happy, great. it just might not be the highest paying job in the world, but at least you have your happiness. if you just care about the numbers, go for the money and be miserable, though i'm sure most vets grow up wanting to be vets.

either way, don't complain about your salary a decade later. everyone knows teachers don't get paid enough for what they do.

don't take your pets to the vet and see how far that will get you when something serious happens. i am happy to pay my vet at every visit because i love my animals. who cares about the cost if you love something/someone that much.

there are low cost spay and neuter clinics. why complain so much about what vets charge at their offices? just go there. problem solved.

there are variations in price for the exact same service. depending on where you go. there are public defenders and some lawyers charge ridiculous amounts for the same services. some people take out student loans, some work really hard to get scholarships.

its life, i would think you would be used to it by now.

Flounder is a 4 yr old fixed male min pin/chihuahua mix. He is up to date on shots, vaccines, and is on heartworm and flea and tick preventative. He is house broken, doesn't chew on furniture or shoes. He is a spunky little dog the loves to lay in the sunshine and chase his shadow. He gets along great with our other dog and infant son but he is shy at first when meeting new people and dogs. It takes him a few minutes to warm up to new people and dogs but he eventually does. He loves to snuggle and curl up under a blanket with you. He was diagnosed about 2 years ago with epilepsy (it looks like hes chasing flies, not an actual seizure) but is on Phenobarb to control it. He gets one pill with his breakfast and another with dinner. The medication is inexpensive(we pay $10/month at Safeway). This condition is controlled very well by the medication and he very rarely (once every 6 months or so) will have an episode and they are very brief and nothing to be concerned about. My allergies have gotten worse over time therefore, we must put him up for adoption.

: Our poor Storm! We loved him the first time he came into the shelter, and we love him all the more now, on his second go round. The first time this gorgeous 1 year and 7 month old boy arrived as a stray; the second time, this energetic boy, whom our behaviorist rated with the highest praise of "no concern", was returned after being owned for a day for being "destructive". In our experience with him, which is now two stays, the beautiful Storm needs a little training and a little exercise and his willingness to please would win out in a matter of hours. In fact, the volunteers at the shelter love him so much that one of them is organizing training classes for him at the shelter! Here's what another volunteer had to say about Storm: "Before walking Storm I noticed a hand written bio that said this dog was a puller on walks but good in the park. I have to admit that I was ready to turn around after getting to First Avenue but, because of the bio, I

MJ's Animal Sanctuary, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue offered to take in 10 puppies on New Years Eve (from three different litters) that were all pulled from a kill shelter, so that volunteers had room to save more dogs over the holidays. Of these, 2 are left still needing homes.

We believe they are 12-13 week old German Shepherd/Lab mixes, with maybe a little aussie mixed in. They both survived parvo and are happy and healthy. They are up to date on all age-appropriate shots, and been de-wormed. Both are females. They are both happy, outgoing, friendly, affectionate, and very playful. Neither one shows any food, toy, or treat aggression. They both adore children and other dogs. We have no cats to test them wtih, but due to their young age, they can be taught not to chase cats. BOTH are paper and crate trained and are beginning housebreaking.

Lily is a unique gunmetal blue/silver color with a splash of white on her chest.

Lilac is a sleek, rich, solid black.

Chloe is a little over 1 yr old Black Lab Mix, and is wonderful. She is crate-trained, and house-broken. She knows the basic commands of (Sit,Stay,Leave-it, Etc). She is Micro Chipped and registered. She loves to play ball and climb under your feet or next to you, to lay and chew her bone. We have 2 other dogs, and our oldest just cannot get along with her so we need to find her the best home and family out there. Looking for a kitten? I recently had to get rid of my cat & had to take him to the pound. I would still like to see him go to a good home. He's a all black cat, he is very sweet & loving & his name is Remi. He loves to cuddle with you & insists on laying on your chest & face when he lays with you. He is both a inside/outside cat. He is not completly house trained. He is about 7months he hasnt had any of his shots yet. The reason I had to get rid of him is becuas he kept getting into fights with my neighbors dogs & my neighbors happen to be my landlords so hands were tied there, but he got along with the other neighborhood dogs quite well and loved running around the yard with them. As for cats he just needed time to get used to them. He is okay with children as long as they dont pick on him. Please give my dog Snowball a new home. She is 3 1/2 year old Huskie and Akita mix.
She weighs 60 pounds and is 2 feet tall. She's been spaayed and had her rabies booster shot
in July 2009. The pics will show her as all white with fascinating ears that have an almond tint.
In all honesty, this pooch might not be perfect around children younger than 8 years old.
Since that's relatively small in my opinion, she would love then so much that she would lick
them constantly and just want to be close and get hugged all of the time. She craves that attention
from people and might be too much closeness for a child of that age to deal with. I can, but I'm unemployed
and have to giver up to cut all expenses possible. She stays outdoors and only wants to come
inside the house when it gets colder than freezing outside. Once inside, she makes the rounds then
settles down to snooze wherever I am. She is energetic and playful, but absolutely loves people
and personal attention. I nicknamed her "Miss Congeniality" because she loves to meet and greet
people. She will greet you with joy and happiness at every moment.
I've trained her to sit, lay down, come and catch snacks and play a game called "paws"
where she lays on her back and we do a gentle boxing thing. She's been trained not to bite or nip,
and when I had chickens she was never aggressive or bit or ate any one of them.
People who have met her in person always notice how adorable she is. If you have a few acres
where she can roam when she's loose, please adopt her for free. Please respond by email first

They dont have much time left and someone dropped off a mom and her two babies yesterday which means they have no time left along with a few others. No time for any kind of exposure. These sweet faces only have until 5pm TODAY to get out safely. Anyone not adopted or rescued by close of business TODAY WILL BE PUT DOWN THURSDAY MORNING before the shelter opens to the public. The shelter will be closed on Friday for New Year's Day. Please find it in your heart to save some of these precious babies. There were several that were owner surrenders on Tuesday which means they have NO TIME for any kind of exposure. They are a Husky Shepherd Mom and her two babies in kennel 21, then someone dropped off their 3 dogs at once and they are pit girl, minature Pinscher Daschshund kennel 32 and a Pointer boy in kennel 33. So many of them need our help today and we are their only hope for a happy New Year. Please don't leave them here all alone, bring one home with you today. Even if you can't keep the dog, maybe you can rescue it and try to find it a loving home. Maybe you can foster one of them for the volunteer Julie for a couple of weeks before they can be placed in a loving home. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am being forced to move into a place that will not accept my cat and long time companion, Tigger. I'm offering him to the first loving home that is willing to take him.
Tigger just turned 11, and he has been a member of our family since he was a kitten. He's a beautiful animal, long-haired, orange, and about 15lbs.
He frequently enjoys kneading my stomach when I lay down to bed, and being pet for another 10 minutes or so, just before relocating to the foot of the bed to sleep. He is a cuddler. He's also quite talkative.
Tigger's focal point is food, and he'll eat just about anything, so I will warn you that if there's any food laying around, don't expect it to last long with this guy on the prowl!
Tigger can be a bit of a pain at times, but I love him, and he will truely be a blessing to the appropriate home.

I am rehoming my 3' to 3.5' Burmese Python. She is brown and very friendly. She has never bitten me. She eats well, I feed her 3 mice every other week, or a small rat and two mice. She is very cheap to upkeep. Her bedding is aspen bedding, and practically brand new. She has a log tunnel in her cage that comes with her, as well as a heating pad, water dish, and heating lamp. The tank is 55 gallon. There is a screen top, but it has a couple small holes in it. She hasn't tried to get out of it, but it should probably be replaced. I have had no problems with her, I just don't have the time or room for her. There is an adoption fee of $200, or best offer, which includes the tank and accessories.

Here is Izzy's story:

Izzy is a lovable and sweet white lab mix who urgently needs your help! Izzy was rescued from an awful situation where she was dumped at a high kill shelter right before Christmas. She was scheduled to be euthanized on Friday 12/18. While her future looked awful, she remained sweet and loving. Luckily, some animal lovers found a home for her, arranged transport, and stepped in to save her!

Izzy traveled almost 400 miles to look for a new life with her new family which she would meet the next evening. The morning after she arrived she stopped eating and seemed very lethargic. One of the girls that rescued her knew something was wrong and took her to the vet. They had very grim news. Izzy has Parvo. Having never met Izzy, the family changed their minds at the thought of going through such expensive treatment. The nice people that rescued/transported her faced a heart wrenching decision that they were not prepared to make. To their relief, PAWS Rescue, a local 501(c)(3) rescue organization, offered to help even though they were already in massive debt from other recently rescued sick dogs and puppies.

Since Izzy is homeless, PAWS Rescue is her only hope. Izzy is still hospitalized. Her white blood cell count bottomed out on Christmas day, so she will have to remain at the vet for several more days. The veterinarians feel her prognosis is good, but her treatment is costly.

Now PAWS Rescue needs your help! In order to make Izzy better, PAWS Rescue will have to go further in to debt.

Please help them if you can. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so any donation is tax deductible! Izzy is a good dog with some bad luck. If she gets better, she will make a wonderful companion.

White kitty once and for all

Okay.. I've not posted but only read all this about the white kitty. Everyone has gotten so hyped up over this and it's time to put it to rest. I'm quite sure that the first negative poster, like a lot of us, finally saw one too many unwanted pets given away. Sometimes the reasons may be valid, but you have to understand how many times those of us who frequent this section see pets no longer wanted because of 'allergies', 'new babies', 'new job', 'moving', 'landlord says we can't have them anymore', and the most horrendous of all, the ones who 're-home' a pet they've had for years because of a new pet who takes its place.

As much as I hate to see people who make excuses to give away unwanted pets, I try to console myself with the fact that they are trying on here instead of dumping them someplace.

The white kitty owner just struck a raw nerve on someone... like the last straw... like the 'one too many' unwanted pet posts.

Everyone calm down and donate to a local animal shelter so they can have a merrier christmas.

You are missing the point and I think other people will agree with me here. its not the fact that you are rehoming the cat, which i'm happy you are trying to find a home for it.
It's the point that you should have known better than to get cats and birds together. Granted some situations work but more likely They DON'T work. Cats see birds as prey, therefore they should not have been together in the first place. That's why most people are having a fit about your original post. Take as a lesson in life and MOVE ON!! Then everyone will leave you alone!

first I do apoligize for my "rudeness" as i see that there are some lucky situations involving cats and birds. But more often than not those situations donot work out and"Accidents" do happen. I also have had cats and birds myself. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But i'm sure alot of people will agree with me here that people will get rid of their pets for well meaning "wrong" reasons. Pets are for a lifetime. not be gotten rid of because of allergies, the cuteness has worn off, got the pet for my child and he/she doesn't want it anymore, etc, etc. i have allegies and still have dogs and cats, i make it work. My mother had 6 kids and multitude of animals but did she get rid of the animals? NO!! She made it work. Maybe you all can understand my impulse of having my say about the white kitty. again, i apologize. Have anice night and Merry Christmas!!

Izzy is a sweet and lovable white lab puppy who urgently needs your help! Izzy was rescued from an awful situation where she was dumped at a high kill shelter right before Christmas. Her future looked awful, until some animal lovers stepped in to save her! Izzy traveled almost 400 miles to start her new life. Everyone that met her during the rescue fell in love with her sweet personality and loving ways. It�s like she knew she was being given another chance at life.

But just when things started to look up for Izzy, she arrived at the vet for her first check-up and we discovered that she had parvo. She is receiving urgent treatment, but we have limited funds and are hoping for a Christmas miracle. Please consider giving a tax deductible donation in Izzy�s name to help with the cost of treating this dog that has beaten the odds and hopes to start her new life!

I have a cat. She's been with us for all of her 3 years. i also have SEVERAL birds. the
cat is very interested in the small birds. it's what they do. she has learned her place
with the big birds. Would i leave them alone together? yes. Who do i place my bets on?
the big birds. birds and cats can mix...and sometimes, they don't mix. depends on your
situation.

Good luck finding a home for your friend. Yay for you for trying to do the right thing
by it and not just dumping it off on the side of the road or on some farm.
And I agree, rudeness has no place on CL..or anywhere
for that matter.

I have cats and parakeets........The parakeets stay in their cage all the time. The cage is a big floor cage that would not tip over on account of how the legs bow out a little............the cats at first tried to get them, but after a while settled down. They sleep on top of the cage sometimes. Now, I know better...........if one got out, they would be dinner! I have a rescued 10 week old kitten that reaches in and bats their toys around that have bells in them and they are not afraid.....they know the cats can't get them.

I have a baby female guinea pig that I need to find a new home for. She is less than six months old and beautifully colored and absolutely sweet and adorable! My son is allergic to her and so that is why she has to find a new home. We are asking a rehoming fee just because we want to make sure that she goes to another loving home that will take care of her and love her. She comes with her cage, water bottle, hidey hut home, food bow, with food and hay. I will give you all that I have for her. We have only had her for three weeks. I am sad to have to rehome her. Yellow Lab in Need of Foster/Adopter/Sponsor (Bowie, MD)

This gorgeous female yellow lab mix is about 1 1/2 years old and weighs 45 lbs. and just when she has caught a break in her already tough life, she needs more help! MJ's Animal Sanctuary, a non-profit 501(c)(3) rescue pulled Daphne from a high kill shelter just the day before she was to be euthanized. She is friendly, affectionate, outgoing, playful and is WONDERFUL with CHILDREN and most other dogs (probably no small dogs). She shows absolutely NO food, toy, or treat aggression, and Finding a home for Daphne quickly was not hard the first time - she was adopted out with a spay/vet contract in place. Sadly, due to domestic violence in the home, Daphne had to be returned to us for her safety, and prior to receiving the heartworm treatments she desperately needs!

Since being back here, Daphne has been spayed and is microchipped, up to date on all her shots, and been dewormed. Now we need a family who can take care of Daphne and who has the means to get her heartworm treated. Ideally we are looking for a forever home for her, but we will also work with anyone wishing to sponsor and/or foster Daphne during her treatments (about 90 days once she begins). She is young and otherwise healthy, so a very positive outcome is expected with no permanent ill effects if treated soon. Sadly, our rescue does not have the funding for heartworm treatments, so we are looking for donations to help offset her heartworm treatments, or a placement in a family with the means to have it done.
