Boston Harbor 1857 large format 28.5 × 42 engraving (not lithography) from the original engraving steel plate originally hand colored by John W. Hill, Artist and Charles Mottram, Engraver and authorized limited edition reprinting/colorization in 1970s. Full size of frame is 38 x 50 inches.
Museum Collections: The original prints are held in various museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Libraries and Centers: The Norman B. Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library also has the view in its collection.
The provenance is documented with the provided Certificate of Authenticity listed as Item No 1215, order 46/2179 and came to us directly from the estate of Dr. Robert Ackerman of Gloucester, Mass, who passed recently in 2018.
Considered museum quality, it is mounted in conservation frame with 97% conservation clear glass, custom detailed 100% cotton rag mat by Hershey Frame Shop dated 3/1/2011 and shown in accompanying photos.
Photos are provided of the entire framed engraving, closeup of the custom mat at bottom showing "Boston", and closeup of a colored section as an example, as well as a rear image and a readable closeup of the Certificate of Authenticity and the framing documentation.
The condition of the engraving, glass and mat are impeccable, however the frame itself has a chip and will need to be replaced.
